This blue fish just makes the world a happier place. I use thin plywood as a canvas. The frame came from who knows where. I'm always finding them at yard sales and auctions. I love to see the changes come as I ate colors and attitude.

Bookcase
A funky little bookcase that is perfect for books.
I was driving home one day, minding my own business, when I passed what I thought was a yard sale. This bookcase was a vibrant green. I pulled off the road and walked back to the house. The people were setting up for a yard sale -- to be conducted the next day.
Well, I talked a little to them and asked how much they planned to get for the bookcase. I thought the price was reasonable. I thought a minute and then asked if they'd be willing to sell it to me right then. Hey, it never hurts to ask. And this from someone who doesn't particularly like early birds when I have yard sales.
Guess what? They said yes! So I carried the bookcase back to the van. I did mention that I'd already driven past the yard sale and then walked back. It didn't seem so heavy when I first started out. I am used to lugging furniture around after all. By the time I got to the van I was about ready to pay them to take it back. And it's not really that big!
It found a home in the overcrowded shop. Fast forward a few weeks. A very nice woman came with her husband and daughter to bring a dresser for me to paint. The daughter saw the bookcase and she liked it too. It does have a nice, funky kind of look to it. So I painted it to match her dresser and nightstands. It makes me happy to think of it loaded down with books.

Can you believe that someone was actually headed to the dump with this beautiful piece of furniture? Fortunately, a wonderful family rescued it. They stripped down the layers of paint and brought it to me. I put a back on it and got to work. Now it matches the two nightstands a wonderful mom had already purchased from me for her little girl.

I found these two pieces at a garage sale. They were dark wood and very, well, normal looking. I loved that they were wood and in great shape. They just needed a little color.
I base coated them in a deep wine. I followed that with two coats of silver glaze. Then the blueish turquoise topped it off. In the sunlight, the silver sort of shimmers, drawing out the wine. The purpose and light green turquoise finish it off.
Who said bedroom furniture had to be boring?!
