Bookcase

This piece was once a hutch. I didn't need a hutch. So I made it a bookcase. Everyone needs a bookcase. Of course, you can use it for many things other than books. I just like books. Lots and lots of books.

I used Dixie Belle Fluff and added Best Dang Wax in black to highlight areas of the piece. I love the way it turned out.

Nautical Bookcase

 

This bookcase started with two wood shutters. I paired them with some rough wood to create this large bookcase. I used more than 10 shades of blue paint to create the base design. The sailboats, anchors and crab were by special request. I love the way it turned out!

Funky Bookcase

This old wood bookcase has been in the workshop for what seems like forever. I told my Dad is was his. He said it was mine. Truthfully, neither one of us wanted to claim it because it was just so quirky. The bottom shelf, for example, has three different boards that are three different sizes. I finally took pity on the poor bookcase. I painted it glossy black and added pink highlights, accenting the quirkiness. It's just fun! I know it's going to find a wonderful home.

Bookcase

A funky little bookcase that is perfect for books.

I was driving home one day, minding my own business, when I passed what I thought was a yard sale. This bookcase was a vibrant green. I pulled off the road and walked back to the house. The people were setting up for a yard sale -- to be conducted the next day.

Well, I talked a little to them and asked how much they planned to get for the bookcase. I thought the price was reasonable. I thought a minute and then asked if they'd be willing to sell it to me right then. Hey, it never hurts to ask. And this from someone who doesn't particularly like early birds when I have yard sales.

Guess what? They said yes! So I carried the bookcase back to the van. I did mention that I'd already driven past the yard sale and then walked back. It didn't seem so heavy when I first started out. I am used to lugging furniture around after all. By the time I got to the van I was about ready to pay them to take it back. And it's not really that big!

It found a home in the overcrowded shop. Fast forward a few weeks. A very nice woman came with her husband and daughter to bring a dresser for me to paint. The daughter saw the bookcase and she liked it too. It does have a nice, funky kind of look to it. So I painted it to match her dresser and nightstands. It makes me happy to think of it loaded down with books.
